Chronotherapy for cardiovascular disease treatment in patients with end stage renal failure

  • This observational study demonstrated the benefit of nocturnal hemodyalisis, which decreased left ventricular hypertrophy in 41 patients with end-stage renal failure and cardiovascular disease.

  • The 2-group parallel randomized controlled clinical trial demonstrated left ventricular mass was decreased as measured by magnetic resonance imaging in 52 patients on nocturnal vs. conventional hemodyalisis over 6 months.

  • In a retrospective cross-over study, left ventricular hypertrophy was reduced as left ventricular mass significantly decreased after nocturnal but not during conventional hemodialysis in a cross-over study of 37 patients with end stage renal failure

  • Decreased adverse cardiac remodeling not associated with BP changes were shown by improved biventricular mass index, biatrial volume index, and diastolic function assessed by transthoracic echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in 11 kidney failure patients after 1 year of nocturnal hemodialysis
